The staff at Lynnfield are very experienced in supporting children for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL). If your child is new to speaking English or just needs a little extra support to address gaps in their English skills we have a range of provision in place to meet their individual needs.
We use Flash Academy to support our pupils. Pupils will be assessed approximately 2 weeks after their arrival to the school using the Flash Academy proficiency assessments for English – speaking, reading, writing and listening. This will help staff to identify the next steps in your child’s learning and ensure we have the right provision in place.
Some children may be offered the next available space in our EAL provision (Caterpillars) which runs every morning. For families who have a child accessing our EAL provision they will receive a range of support from the team who can support and signpost to other services within the community. We also have been commissioned by Hartlepool Local Authority to run the EAL Hub on their behalf. The aim of The Hub is to provide a nurturing, educational environment for the children resettled from overseas in Hartlepool prior to transition into mainstream education. The hope is to equip them with the social, emotional and basic academic skills in order to achieve their maximum potential.
